Each week, City Guide will review a restaurant in Gibraltar and publish our unbiased findings. We will be constructive and highlight what was good, moderate or bad, in the hope that our review will encourage people to visit the restaurant in question, or provide feedback that the restaurant can if necessary improve on.
Our reviewer will dine anonymously at a designated restaurant and write a descriptive, useful and constructive review, taking into account all aspects of dining out.
A few weeks prior to our visit, we call the restaurant to make our reservation and we confirm the booking the day before. At no time will the restaurant be aware that we are reviewing their establishment.
On arrival we will take in the surroundings paying attention to the lighting level, furniture, music, décor and general vibe. We will study the drinks menu, attention to the variety and choose the appropriate drink.
Next, the food. our reviewer will order starters, mains and dessert. (Always dessert.) and ask about any chefs’ specials or signature dishes.
Special attention will made of the friendliness, knowledge and efficiency of the staff. Are we welcomed at the door? Are our questions answered satisfactorily? Do we feel looked after? Were we rushed through our meal?
And for the most important part, we will enjoy your meal and pay attention to the quality, seasonality and preparation of the ingredients, the balance of flavours in the dishes, portion sizes and presentation.
At the end of the meal we will pay the bill, leaving a good tip if deserved, and disappear back to City Guide to write our review with any photographs we have taken during our meal.
